高山本線の普通列車も、勾配区間を走るため、エンジンを2基搭載したキハ58が連結されていました。キハ58は冷房電源を持ったキハ28と連結して、冷房が使用する事が出来ますが、
当時は、非冷房車のキハ40やキハ48などと連結され、冷房は使用出来ませんでした。
高山駅発車の車内放送はチャイム付です。勾配区間でのキハ58のエンジン音やタイフォンをお楽しみください。
